This month, our staff is focusing on the power of "noticing." Traditionally, communication home can sometimes emphasize problems, mistakes, or areas needing improvement. While those conversations remain important, we are intentionally increasing our use of noticing notes, messages that highlight students' strengths, effort, growth, kindness, curiosity, and perseverance.

A noticing note might recognize a student who helped a classmate, showed resilience during a challenging task, demonstrated leadership, asked thoughtful questions, or made meaningful progress toward a goal. By paying attention to what is going well, we strengthen positive relationships, build student confidence, and reinforce the habits that support learning.

Families play an important role in this work. Consider taking a few moments each day to notice and name specific actions rather than focusing only on outcomes. Instead of "Good job," try "I noticed how hard you worked on that project" or "I saw how patient you were with your younger sibling." These specific observations help children understand their strengths and recognize the choices and efforts that lead to success.

Together, by intentionally noticing growth, kindness, persistence, and responsibility, we can help our students develop confidence, resilience, and a positive sense of themselves as learners and community members.

The Charlemagne Bike Bus occurs every Wednesday morning, rain or shine! This is a

parent/volunteer-led route to school that seeks to make getting to school fun, social, and safe. It is a great way to start the day with fresh air and other families and students from our community.

7:45 AM 24th St. Fields (park at 24th St fields), cross over 24th Ave at path crossing.

7:50 AM Amazon Pool/YMCA (park at YMCA, Hilyard Center, or Amazon Pool), follow 

Amazon Path.

7:55 AM Amazon Dog Park/LTD Park & Ride (park in Park & Ride area), follow Amazon Path under bridge, cross 31st Ave.

8:00 AM Hilyard Scramble (Where Amazon, Hilyard, and 33rd Ave meet...park at

Paddock, Albertsons, on neighborhood streets.), follow protected bike path on E.

Amazon Dr., turn left on th 39th Ave.

8:10 AM Arrive at Charlemagne in time for breakfast.

Bonjour a tous! Did you know that the downtown branch of the Eugene Public Library has a lot of French Children's Books you can check out? Picture books, chapter books and non-fiction - venez nombreux and borrow some books in French for the weekends!

We are expanding our children's French book collection at the library and would love to hear what your favorite French books, authors or genres are that you would like us to add. 

Feel free to send suggestions to Monica McQueen, the (French speaking) Early Literacy Outreach Librarian, at Mmcqueen@eugene-or.gov.

We also have a huge selection of children's DVDs with a French language track. You can search the library catalogue for the word "french." There are also quite a few French movies and tv shows available on the library's free streaming movie service called Kanopy.

Chess club holds weekly sessions on Wednesdays right after school in the gym. More info can be found at their website above.

M. Eric, our music teacher, is offering two afterschool marimba classes on Wednesdays.

Is ypur student interested in learning violin? Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestras (ESYO) offers beginning strings classes. Visit us on Facebook  

 

The Oregon Children’s Choir (OCC) welcomes K-12 graders to come sing with us! Learn to sing, make friends, and have fun! Choirs meet once per week and perform four concerts per year. Interested? Kids are welcome to attend a free rehearsal to give OCC a try. Registration and more information at  Oregon Children's Choir. Scholarships and sibling discounts available. Oregon Children's Choir is a nonprofit arts organization, serving Lane County for 45 years.
