Dear Charlemagne Families

We are excited to welcome our students and families back for a wonderful new school year! The start of school is a great time to establish routines that help children feel confident, organized, and ready to learn.

One of the most important factors in student success is regular attendance and arriving at school on time. Every school day provides valuable learning opportunities, classroom connections, and experiences that are difficult to replace when missed. Consistent attendance helps students build strong academic habits, while arriving on time ensures they begin the day feeling prepared and engaged.

As we begin the year, consider creating a consistent morning drop-off routine. Preparing backpacks, lunches, and clothing the night before can help make mornings less stressful. Arriving on time, saying a brief and positive goodbye, and encouraging your child to carry their own backpack can help build independence and ease the transition into the school day.

For younger students, a predictable goodbye ritual, such as a special hug, high-five, or encouraging phrase, can provide comfort and reassurance. If your child is feeling nervous, remind them that their teachers and classmates are excited to see them and support them throughout the day. Check out this article that discusses the Power of Rituals.

Thank you for partnering with us to make attendance, punctuality, and positive routines a priority. We look forward to a fantastic year filled with learning, growth, and success!

Building Updates

We have a new playground! Folks have been working hard all summer on both our new covered structure and playground. We are excited to officially premier our new outdoor experience at the Meet the Teacher watermelon event on September 8th.

Additionally, we wanted to provide an update on the roofing situation at Charlemagne.

A new roof is being installed this summer, and because of the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system being installed at the same time, the roofing project is longer and more complicated than normal. Some portions of the roof were not complete by the time rain arrived this week, and despite the industry-standard prevention steps taken by the contractor, parts of the school building experienced water leaks.

Starting Wednesday, Sept. 2, water intrusion affected several classrooms as well as the office area and gym. 4J's Facilities team, district and school custodians, and the roofing contractor have all responded immediately and have been working overtime to address the issue.

The most important information is that classrooms will be dry, ready and safe by the start of school on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
