Mardi Gras

Bonjour Charlemagne Families!

A huge merci beaucoup to everyone who joined us for our very first Family Engagement Night! It was wonderful to see so many families come together to share their voices and participate in the vital conversation about making Charlemagne an inclusive and welcoming school community for every student.
This evening wouldn't have been possible without the dedication of several key groups and individuals. We want to extend a special thank you to:
  • Our Parent Equity and Inclusion Advisory Team for their guidance and support.
  • Mme Anou and Mme Genna for their leadership and vision.
  • All of our incredible volunteers who gave their time to ensure the event ran smoothly.
Your insights and energy are what make our community so special. We are excited to keep this momentum going!

Construction Notice: New Playground Covered Structure

We are thrilled to announce that construction on our new playground covered structure will officially begin next week! This project is a wonderful addition to our campus and will provide our students with a shaded, year-round space for play and outdoor learning.
Work is scheduled to continue through the end of the summer.

Safety Reminder
With construction crews and equipment on-site, we ask for your extra cooperation and patience. Please be mindful of new signage and work zones during drop-off and pick-up to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and visitors.

Thank you for your support as we improve our school grounds!

How You Can Help
We kindly ask our community members, volunteers and visitors to partner with us in keeping our campus secure. If you are on school grounds, please ensure that:
  • All gates are firmly closed and locked immediately after you pass through them.
  • You continue to check in at the main office before entering the gated areas.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our Charlemagne community safe!

SEL

Social Emotional Learning

This month, our SEL time is focused on the critical competencies of Kindness and Empathy. These are foundational skills that help students succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

At-Home Connection Activities:
  • Create a "Calm Corner": Talk about what helps you feel better when your emotions feel "big." Together, find a dedicated spot in the house and fill it with things like soft pillows, fidget toys, or books to create a safe space for regulation.
  • Memory Storytelling: Take turns sharing a favorite memory. Describe not just what happened, but exactly how it made you feel (happy, proud, peaceful) to help build emotional vocabulary.
  • Five-Senses Nature Walk: Head outside for a "Sensory Walk." Pick one sense—like hearing—and see how many different sounds you can identify. This helps everyone stay present and grounded.
  • Add: The "High/Low" Dinner Ritual: At the end of the day, have everyone share one "high" point (a win) and one "low" point (a challenge). This normalizes talking about the ups and downs of life.

Save the Date: A Night in the French Quarter

Please join us for an evening inspired by a 1920s New Orleans speakeasy, filled with great food, lively music, and fun fundraising activities. It’s our most impactful fundraising event of the year!

Saturday, May 2, 2026
6:00 PM
Ford Alumni Center — University of Oregon
The soirée funds essential school programs that support our students and teachers, including teacher and staff appreciation, artists in residence, classroom support specialists, campus improvements, library services, the French intern program, and social and emotional learning supports.

This year, we especially need your help to ensure we meet our fundraising goal and there are many ways to contribute!

Sponsorships and auction item donations play a major role in making this event successful, and we are still actively seeking both. Learn more about what kinds of auction items we’re looking for and how to become a sponsor.

We are incredibly grateful to our early bird sponsors for their generosity and support:
Eugene Dental Group, Elle McLean – Bailey & Heisey Real Estate, Summit Bank, Cascade Kids Dental, Hershner Hunter, Albee’s NY Gyros, and Serenity Suites.

Thanks for reading!

...and for being part of what makes Charlemagne a great place to learn and grow.

Warmly,
Madame Poppy
