Week of October 20-24

Mardi Gras

Bonjour Charlemagne Families!

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 22nd, as we celebrate Unity Day!

Unity Day is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month in the U.S. It is a day for our entire school community to come together to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion for all students.

Our goal is simple: to send a visible message that we stand together against bullying and for a warm, welcoming, and safe school environment.

We encourage all students and staff to wear and share the color orange on October 22nd! This bright color represents solidarity and support for students who have been bullied and for bullying prevention efforts everywhere.

Let's show our Charlemagne spirit and unite for kindness!

L'union fait la force,

Poppy

Building Updates

First, I just want to say thank you to the PTO for providing bottled water stations for our school this year! Grades K/3, 1/2 and 4/5 all have stations located near their classrooms. Please find more information here regarding the 4j School District's response to waterquality in our schools.

Second, as mentioned, the fencing/gate system has been completed. We are looking forward to further building improvements including a covered play area and updated equipment on the playground. Pending school board approval, both projects are slated to begin this summer and hopefully be completed by next Fall. Stay tuned for updates as we get nearer to this summer.

Happy Halloween

Our Annual Parade will be on Halloween!

Our Halloween Parade will start at 8:50 a.m. on Friday, October 31.

Parents are welcome to arrive at 8:35 and view the parade from the courtyard. For students who do not wish to participate in the parade we will have an alternate activity space available.

Below is a list of do's and please don't's that we hope will make the day enjoyable for everyone.

If students are going to wear a costume, they must wear it to school. Please include shoes that are appropriate for school. No heels, no slippers, and no flip-flops.

Students will not be permitted to change at school. Costumes should not interfere with the ability of a student to go to the bathroom by themselves.

Please note that students will still have recess and any other activities they regularly have on
Friday. Please send them with a coat, proper shoes, etc. so that they can participate fully the rest of the school day.

Please limit makeup to whiskers, freckles, eye make up, etc. No full face paint or masks.
Costumes must not be too scary or inappropriate for the school environment.

Please no gory or grotesque costumes. No props are allowed: no swords, weapons, wands, etc.

Your student should not dress as another person’s race, religion or culture. A costume can be of a character or an individual who is of another race/religion/culture than your child, but not of a generalized race or ethnicity, religion or culture. Costumes should not be caricatures of any group.

Students will be asked to change clothes for inappropriate attire which might entail a call home.

If you are not sure about the appropriateness of a costume, please discuss with your teacher or the principal.
