Dear Charlemagne Families!

We are so glad to welcome you back for another school year at Charlemagne. Our theme this year is “Grow Together” because learning, like growing, happens best when we do it side by side. We can’t wait to see how our students, staff, and families support one another and grow together this year.

One quick reminder: our construction projects are still underway. Please take extra care around the parking lots at drop-off and pick-up—we want everyone to stay safe while work is still in progress.

Here’s to a year of growing, learning, and laughing together!

Bienvenue!

As we return to school, we wanted to make sure you all were aware that we have begun implementing an Extreme Heat Response Plan. With temperatures rising, we want to reassure you that keeping students safe, comfortable, and ready to learn is our top priority. On extreme heat days, our staff follows a clear plan to help classrooms and common areas stay as cool as possible:

  • Morning ventilation: Windows and doors are opened first thing in the morning to let in cooler air before the day heats up.

  • Fans in classrooms: Each classroom is equipped with an oscillating fan on a stand to keep air moving.

  • Hydration and misters at recess: Students will have access to water stations and outdoor misters during recess.

  • Cooling strategies indoors: Teachers may use handheld spritzers for a light misting, and students are encouraged to drink water throughout the day.

  • Cooling walks: If a classroom becomes overly warm, teachers may take students for a short “cooling walk” to a shaded or cooler space on campus.

We will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and adjust as needed. Thank you for helping us remind students to bring a water bottle each day, wear light clothing, and be ready to stay cool while learning.

Merci, Poppy

Charlemagne Electronic Device Use Guidelines 2025-2026

In response to Governor Tina Kotek’s Executive Order No. 25-09, all Oregon schools must implement policies restricting personal electronic device use during the school day. At Charlemagne, this means we will continue with our current policy that all electronic devices, including Smart Watches, must be off and away during the school day. However, exceptions will be made when use is formally included in a student’s IEP, 504 Plan, or a licensed medical provider’s order. Thank you, in advance, for your understanding and support.

Volunteer Orientation on Google Meet

We will continue to offer our volunteer orientation meetings on Wednesday, September 10, 17 and 24, at 3:00 p.m.

Even if you attended the training last year, please plan to attend to review the information with us.
