Dear Charlemagne Families

Spring is here, and with it comes the joy of longer days, blooming flowers, and the chance to reconnect as a community under the warm sunshine. As we celebrate the season of renewal, our students have the unique opportunity to observe the remarkable Kildeer, a protected bird species that graces our school grounds. Their presence is a reminder of the beauty and wonder of nature, right in our own backyard.

Let’s embrace the spirit of the season—gathering, exploring, and appreciating the outdoors together. Bon Printemps!

Kildeer Family Update

Here is a brief update on our Killdeer family: Over the spring break, the original nest was destroyed, but these birds are persistent and started a new one not far away.

Here is a reminder to please make sure you and your students keep a respectful distance from these nesting birds. Please keep dogs on a leash at all times.

Thank you!

A message from Facilities Department

Spring is upon us, and it’s time once again for Facilities to commence preventative yellow jacket trapping efforts. Over the next month, we will be refreshing the 10-week attractant in existing traps, and replacing any traps that have been lost throughout the last year. Please see the attached notification for more information about the process.

Bike Repair and Donate-A-Bike Event Wednesday, April 9 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm At the Roosevelt bike racks

Roosevelt Middle School, in partnership with Safe Routes to School and Shift Community Cycles, will be holding a free Bike Repair and a Donate-A-Bike Event on Wednesday, April 9 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm!

This event is for the 4J community to donate bicycles to Shift Community Cycles and/or get their bikes repaired by Shift. Shift will refurbish donated bicycles and they will be given to 4J students who do not have access to a bike of their own. These donations are tax deductible.

Meet Safe Routes to School and Shift at the bike racks with your bicycle of any size to make your donation (they are especially in need of 24” and adult small sizes) or with your bike in need of tune-ups and small repairs.

School Transportation Survey: We Want to Hear From You!

In partnership with the City of Eugene, we’re asking all parents and guardians to take a few minutes to fill out a brief survey about your child’s daily commute to school. Your feedback will help us better understand transportation needs and improve options for all families. The survey is quick, confidential, and your responses will remain anonymous.

As a thank you, everyone who completes the survey by April 20 will be entered into the City of Eugene’s random drawing for a chance to win one of twelve $25 gift cards! Please take a moment to share your thoughts by filling out the survey here: School Transportation Survey. Your input is invaluable and we appreciate your time!
