Cheer at the Eugene Marathon: The French Quarter Cheer Zone!
Who: All French Immersion Students K -‐ 12
What: French Quarter Cheer Zone
Where: Owosso Foot Bridge
When: Sunday, April 29 – 8:30 – 11:30
Why:
• Inspire Eugene Marathon runners and walkers
• Celebrate the enthusiasm of the K-‐12 French Immersion Community
• Experience the Eugene Marathon like never before
• Maybe win $300.00 “Best Cheer Zone” prize
It’s time to show the incredible community spirit and flair of the entire French Immersion Program. Students, friends and family members from Charlemagne, Roosevelt and SEHS French Immersion programs will gather on the Owosso Foot bridge to cheer and motivate Eugene Marathon runners through “The Wall” at mile 21. The French Quarter is located at what many consider to be the most difficult part of the Eugene Marathon course.
Students, friends and family members are encouraged to make French posters, wear their favorite Mardi Gras masks, beads and costumes. Participants are also encouraged to bring drums, horns, noise makers or any other musical instrument to add to the festivities. Most of all we want as many screaming voices as we can get. So wake up early on Sunday and join in the fun at the French Quarter Cheer Zone. We are hoping to have at least 100 screaming voices beginning at 8:30 and continuing to 11:30. So come anytime between 8:30 – 11:30 and stay as long as you like.

Here is how you can help on May 11
7:45 a.m.
Set Up
Need 5-6 people to bring hammers for stakes, set up water station, hang flags, locate balloons, etc. (Lori will get balloons to match punch cards)
8:15-8:30 a.m.
Barbeque Table Set Up
Need 3-4 people to help Kurt set table up on Basketball Court
9-11:15 a.m.
Water Transport
2-3 people per run. We have a hand truck to help with getting jugs up and down the hill.
Lap Card Punchers
4-6 people for punching lap cards
1 of the 4 should be a Class rep, which also goes to the classroom to pass out cards and will walk their class down to the track 5 min. before run time. Class Reps also help to collect cards at the end of the run. All Lap Card puncher volunteers should help to distribute popsicles.
Water Station
Need 2-3 parents, per shift to be at the water station, refill and hand out water.
11:20 a.m.-noon
Barbeque Servers
Food service has asked for 4-5 parent helpers/servers for the all school barbeque lunch after the second run (11:30ish).
Track clean up
5-6 People are needed to help clear the field of Jog-A-Thon equipment. Hoping to have different helpers from set-up helpers.
Card Returners
Need 4-5 quick working folks to staple a note to the punch cards, organize by class and then return to homeroom teachers BEFORE dismissal. *Note-someone must do the kindergarten cards immediately after first run.
As always, Hildy and I both appreciate your help!
Merci,
Lori Redding and Hildy Tritch
