It’s Mardi Gras time! Our school carnival will be this Friday 2/22 starting at 5:30 p.m., we look forward to seeing you all there. There will be lots of games, prizes, delicious food, face painting, cake walk, photo booth and balloon art to enjoy! Volunteers and baked goods are still needed – please sign up here to help out.


This is an all-school event and we want everyone to enjoy, so if you need any assistance in order to attend Mardi Gras, please see Madame V in the cafeteria or Madame Bernadette in the office.

To get ready for Friday’s festivities our Mardi Gras store will be open every day this week after school. Come by and get your beads, masks, hats and all that glitters and glows.

Carpool Safety:

We have had several complaints in the past month regarding carpool congestion and safety issues. Please remember the following:

*Exercise caution and good judgment when using carpool. 
*Always pull forward, do not stop and block the flow of the traffic.
*If your child needs assistance to get in and out of the vehicle, please park your car and escort your student into the building.

OBOB Battles Begin Tomorrow 2/19!

The Charlemagne OBOB battles run this coming week, February 19-22. The battle schedule, as well as the list of OBOB teams, can be found on the school website’s OBOB page:

The winning team will represent Charlemagne at Regionals at Thurston High School on March 9.

Lastly, we will no longer run OBOB at Charlemagne as we have 5th graders going to Roosevelt next year. Charlemagne is in need of parents to help facilitate OBOB next year. Please contact us if you’d like to learn more about what it takes to make OBOB a success at Charlemagne.

No Chess Club this Friday: 2/22

images (10) Since the gym will be in use this Friday for the Mardi Gras celebration, we will not have chess club.

Congratulations to our Charlemagne team, which won the Regional Tournament last Saturday and will play for the State Championship March 8 in Portland.  

We also had a number of players who qualified for the Individual Championships on March 9, Brandon Young, Yufei Su, Jeremy Wang, Nina Vivek and Hauke Kiley. Bravo team Charlemagne!

Science Fair is Around the Corner!
Coming to the Charlemagne Gymnasium, Thursday, March 7th at 3pm
Get those ideas flowing and experiments rolling. The Science Fair is a fun opportunity for kids to explore areas of interest in the sciences, to learn the scientific method, and prepare and organize a project. Students may work as individuals or in groups and all grades are encouraged to participate. 
This year we are adding the opportunity to have science projects judged by real scientists. The categories will be based on the school science curriculum. If you are wondering what project to do, think about these categories!

*Earth and Space Sciences
*Life Science 
*Engineering, Technology and Applications of Science

Community Spotlight: Internet Safety Presentation @ March PTO meeting 3/21 
Please join us for a special presentation on Internet Safety from
Ophelia’s Place March 21st from 6:30-8pm in the Charlemagne

This presentation is geared at supporting parents in creating a healthy structure for their children around safe internet use and healthy social media interaction. Presentations include information and discussion to address the following:

Ø  Learn digital citizenship tips; discuss the importance of a positive digital footprint.

Ø  Examine the prevalence of online predators, exploitation and blackmail risks.

Ø  Consider photo sharing, safety and location features.

Ø  Discuss social media image construction and pressure it can create for youth.

Ø  Define cyberbullying and examine its impact.

Ø  Clarify appropriate reporting steps.

Ø  Learn about youth advocacy tools and strategies to educate and support youth.

Direct Drive Continues:

Thank you to everyone who has made a contribution to our direct drive this past month. To keep our work going, in this season of giving, we hope you will consider a generous donation to the Charlemagne PTO, our non-profit organization.
