download (12)Welcome back and Happy New Year! We hope you have all had a great winter break and optimal start to 2019. As a friendly reminder, there is no school Monday 1/7, classes officially resume Tuesday 1/8.

The 4j district begins its School Choice process is conducted over the month of January. If you are the parent of a student who has an incoming sibling planning on attending Charlemagne in Fall, please make sure to complete the school choice application (www.4j.lane.edu/choice) at your earliest convenience. All incoming students MUST complete this process to be eligible for sibling preference. the lottery closes 1/31. Please see below for more details.

Looking Ahead: 2019 School Choice begins in January!

In Eugene School District 4J, our school choice policy is that students may request to enroll in any 4J school. School choice requests are accepted in an order determined by lottery.

School choice in January: School choice tours and meetings will be scheduled in the month of January. To be included in the annual school choice lottery, 4J residents must apply between January 1 and January 31. This deadline changed last year to be earlier than in previous years. Non-district residents must apply for an interdistrict transfer between March 1 and March 31 to be included in the school placement lottery.

Who needs to apply: All students who wish to enroll in a school other than their neighborhood school must submit an application. This includes incoming siblings of current students, students who have moved out of our school neighborhood or the district and want to remain enrolled next year.  Their enrollment is not automatic.

Who does not need to apply: If your student is already enrolled in our school on an in-district school choice transfer and has not moved out of the district, or is already enrolled on a multi-year “open enrollment” transfer, you do not need to reapply to continue attending our school next year.

Come see our schools: If you or any of your friends are interested in exploring your school choice options, the district will hold an Elementary School Showcase on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon. All 4J schools will hold tours and other opportunities to visit during the month of January.

If you have any friends or family members who are considering school choice, please invite them to come to learn more about our fantastic Charlemagne French immersion program at our school choice events in January:

Math Madness is Coming!

As a heads up, Math Madness (a similar fundraiser to Read-a-thon but based on math) starts 1/14/19.

1/14 – Math packets will be sent home with students.  They will have a week to do the work & collect pledges & donations.

1/22 – Collection week with 1 Daily Winner drawn per class every day that week.  

The sooner your student turns in a completed envelope, the more chances they have to win a daily prize ($1 gold coin).

OBOB Volunteers Needed:

Parent volunteers are needed during Friday lunch beginning @11:45 to help the OBOB teams practice.

Appointments During School Hours:

A quick reminder about appointments during school time. We know families are busy and often, we have to take appointments and meetings when we can get them.  However, taking your child out of school during the day is disruptive both to the classroom and for student learning.

Please remember to schedule times at the beginning of the school day or well enough after school your student can leave at the regular time.

TreeTop Academics: Winter/Mondays 3-4:15pm

At Charlemagne, we offer an after-school class in Science on Mondays.  This term we are focusing on Alternative Energy:Solar!

Classes are open to all 1st-5th-grade students. We are dedicated to providing meaningful, hands-on, project-based, and student-centered educational opportunities through best teaching practices and age-appropriate curriculum to your elementary school students.

Parents and Friends of Charlemagne, our annual Soiree will be Friday, April 12, 2019, and we need your help!

We need your help to make this event a success. We are seeking:

*Volunteers to help lead sub-committees

*Business sponsorships

*Goods or service donations from your business

All donations are tax deductible. Our fundraising dollars support classroom assistants and interns. These assistants reduce the student to teacher ratio, provide additional support for students, and share French culture.

Mardi Gras Committee:

Our Mardi Gras celebration is right around the corner Friday 2/22. This is a fun community focused carnival that includes many games, face painting cakewalk and photo booth!

Direct Drive Continues:

Thank you to everyone who has made a contribution to our direct drive this past month. To keep our work going, in this season of giving, we hope you will consider a generous donation to the Charlemagne PTO, our non-profit organization.
