October 31 celebrations are just around the corner and we’re looking forward to a safe and fun parade event at the beginning of the day! Your student will report to class as usual and the parade will commence shortly after the first bell. Families are welcome to view the parade in the outdoor breezeway space between the upper K/3 hallway and the lower 1/2 hallway.
For any reason, if you would prefer that your child not participate in the parade, you may bring them to school after (around 9:15). The tardy will be excused. In addition, we will be offering an alternate activity in the gym during the parade if arriving late is not an option.
As Halloween approaches and you are considering costumes for the optional school parade on Wednesday, October 31, please follow the guidelines below:
Halloween Parade Dress Code:
- No weapons or weapon-like props
- No dress as another ethnicity, race, religion or culture that is not your own
- No especially scary or gory costumes– please think of our kinder students!
- Masks must be taken off after the parade and stay off for the remainder of the day.
- If you are not sure about the appropriateness of a costume, please ask Madame Courtney.
Your student should not dress as another person’s race, religion or culture. A costume can be of a character or an individual who is of another race/religion/culture than your child, but not of a generalized race or ethnicity religion or culture. Costumes should not be caricatures of any group. Students will be asked to change clothes for inappropriate attire.
Please note that students will still have recess and any other activities they regularly have on a Wednesday. Please send them with a coat, proper shoes, etc. so that they can participate fully in the rest of the school day.

November conferences are in three weeks! If you haven’t already, you will receive information from your student’s teacher(s) about how to sign up via Sign-up Genius.
A few updates to conferences this year:
- We have only 16 hours for conferences; in past years, we’ve had 20 or more hours. Our time with each family is limited– thank you in advance for being prompt!
- If you have more than one student at our school, please sign up between Friday, October 19 and Sunday, October 21.
- If you have one student at our school, sign-up begins Monday, October 22.
- If you cannot be at conferences, please consider signing up for a time anyway and your conference can happen via phone.
- Conferences will happen Wednesday, November 7 from 4-8 pm and Thursday, November 8 from 8 am – 8 pm. There is school as usual Wednesday 11/7, No school November 8th and 9th.

Read -A- Thon Wrap up:
Thank you to everyone who supported this year’s challenge. Our Charlemagne community helped us to travel around the world, to date students have read over 73,000 minutes and traveled over 7,300 miles with Read-a-Thon which was enough to get them to France and beyond! And we are still counting…
We have been tracking our progress on a map near the back entrance, and also honoring our Reading Stars (those reading 100+ minutes) on the bulletin board near the front entrance. Please check these out, and congratulate our students on all their efforts.
In addition to that remarkable number of minutes read, we also achieved over 72% participation and raised over $11,000 dollars exceeding our goal! A huge merci to all of our students and their families for all of your efforts.
To wrap up:
– Students can continue to submit their envelopes in the front office through Wednesday, 10/24.
– The winner of the class participation prize and the drawing for the Kindle eReader will be announced on Friday, 10/26
– Beginning the following week on 10/29, our Star Reader
s will get their chance to “travel the world” with our Principal. Mme Courtney will host each classes’ Star Readers for a special lunchtime celebration in which they will be treated to some special petits goûts (French-themed food).

Book Fair is Coming!
Scholastic Book Fair is on its way, beginning November 1st and running through the 8th. This is a fabulous opportunity to support our school library while providing books for your young readers!
In order for this to be a success, we need many parent volunteers! Please sign up for a shift or many if you’re able. All volunteers are entered into a drawing to win $10 in Scholastic Dollars to be used at the fair as a thank-you for helping.
We give away $100 Scholastic Dollars total. If you have questions please email ErinMarie Langsdorf.

Trivia Night at WildCraft Cider Works Nov 16:
Mark your calendars for our First Annual Charlemagne Trivia Night graciously hosted at Wild Craft CiderWorks on Friday, November 16th 6-9pm.
Come hang with your fellow Charlemagne parents and teachers (PTO is sponsoring a teacher team!)
Registration opens next week and space is limited so start thinking about a team name and put a winning team together. Teams can be 4-8 members and registration per team is $50.

Hello from the Charlemagne library. The library is up and running thanks to all the great volunteers. Keep up the good work – it really does matter!!
I sent an email out to all library volunteers this week, so if you didn’t get an email and want to volunteer in the library — email me, Camilla.
Student notices of library fines went home this week. If your student did not get a notice – great, keep up the good work. If your student did receive a notice this week regarding fines and/or overdue books please attempt to locate the book first and have your child return it to the school library. If you can not locate the book or have pending fines, please pay the fine. If a fine or notice is in error, please contact Bernadette so the issue can be resolved.
Fines can be paid via check in the office. Checks can be written to: Charlemagne. Please note on the check the following information: child’s name/grade/library fines.
