Principal’s Corner

principals cornerA Charlemagne facility safety walk through was recently performed with Randi Bowers-Payne, Risk Manager-Adminstrator, and Ryan Wolgamott, South Region School Resource Officer. Officer Wolgamott and Randi reviewed safety and security both inside and outside the building.

Both noted security measures, which enhance Charlemagne’s ability to keep students safe.

Some of those highlights include:

  • the extensive fencing;
  • one point of entry;
  • locked exterior doors;
  •  playground aides with identifiable clothing

Charlemagne is committed to the safety and security of our students and staff. As such, we will continue to revisit safety measures and implement improvements as appropriate.

From Your PTO Co-Chairs

Dear Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We are looking forward to a week that will be action-packed.

Some important things going on are the Read-a-thon, poinsettia sale, and school picture day.

The Read-a-thon is going well and kids seem to be getting excited to start reading and especially to get Principal Eric “stuck on reading” by taping him to the wall. Special thanks to Mr. Anderson for being such a good sport!

We are hoping for 100% participation in this event. Please know thatparticipation in the Read-a-thon simply means reading. If students are able to collect pledges, that is great, but it is NOT required. Students will be eligible for all of the drawings and the class contest just by reading and returning the envelope.

On Friday, Oct. 16, there will be a fun book exchange to kick off the reading week. See the article below for more details.

Picture day is coming on Oct. 23 and more volunteers are needed to help things run smoothly. If you are able to help out from 8 -10 a.m. or 10 a.m. – noon, please contact Kathy Gregory at

The last day to order beautiful poinsettias and wreaths from Johnson Brothers is Monday, Oct. 19. If your family or business might be buying this type of decorations anyway, this is great a way to do that while supporting Charlemagne at the same time. Extra order forms are available in the office.

Special thanks go out to: Connie VanFlandern for coordinating the Charlemagne Swag sale as well as the Recycle the Fox campaign and to Char Heitman for a very successful Bike and Walk to School day.

Have a wonderful week,

Gina Thompson and Shannon Tom (PTO co-chairs)

October Book Exchange and Read-a-thon

The Charlemagne Read-a-thon is here. Students will get a chance to show their love of reading as they ask for pledges until Oct. 16 and then record how many minutes they spent reading between October 16-25.

Time that students read alone or aloud to their parents as well as parents reading to students will all count. Prizes will be given based on minutes read:

  • Students who read 100 minutes will get a piece of tape to tape Principal Eric to the library wall so he can be “STUCK on reading!”
  • Pizza Party for the class with the best participation.
  • Grand prize: eReader (Kindle/Nook) for one lucky participant!

The reading week will kick off with a fun book exchange on Friday, Oct. 16t So drop off your gently used books in front of the library between now and Oct. 16. Please contact Julie Park at if you have any questions or would like to help make this a success.

Poinsettia and Wreath Fundraiser

The Poinsettia and Wreath continues through Monday, Oct. 19.

poinsettia-1The order forms — which were sent home in last week’s homework folders —  are a little different than in previous years. Please only return your Final Order Form along with payment on or before Oct. 19. Keep your original forms for your delivery.

We are partnering with Johnson brothers again for another festive holiday. It’s a great way to decorate your home or even for the office. If you have a local business that decorates for the holidays, please consider buying from us. Johnson Brothers always supplies us with the best quality plants and wreaths. They are gorgeous and Poinsettias are offered in 4 varieties and 3 different sizes. The 12” wreaths are mixed greens with juniper berries.

Delivery will be on Dec. 3 after school pick up.

Any and all volunteers to help with delivery and sorting of orders will be greatly appreciated. Please contact Alice Webb for further details or (541) 729-3015.

Note: There’s an error on the final order form. The 3 sizes offered for poinsettia plants are 4.5″, 6″ and 8″ pots. There are no 12″ poinsettia plants.
