PTO Spending Proposal Deadline Extended: Feb 3rd

Dear Families,
The Math Madness is in full swing!  Lets join together in cheering on all our mathematicians!  All classes with 100% participation will earn a pizza party, and one lucky child from each class will join Mme. Morley for lunch at Dickie Jo’s (on a school day)! Packets are due the week of January 27th.  Several families have shared that this is a favorite fundraiser of kids and grandparents alike.
It is so much fun to see students, staff, and families is the fabulous tee shirts and hoodies Connie Van Flandern designed and had made for us!  Thank you! Thank you Connie!
CBOB is also going strong!  Jennifer Frei is kindly organizing CBOB!  Please read her message below and consider volunteering for this fun and educational activity!
Some of you may have seen the article in the Register Guard that mentioned a check written to Charlemagne from the 4J District (“Schools faulted for funds oversight” Jan. 19, 2014). As many of you know, last year the PTO organized as a separate non-profit entity (501c(3)). Prior to forming our own 501c(3), all of Charlemagne’s parent generated funds were deposited to a 4j account. The check referred to in the article was written in June 2013 to transfer funds generated during 2012-13 from this district account to the bank account of the newly formed organization (Charlemagne at Fox Hollow PTO). Apparently the district did not have appropriate documentation for this check and as a result it was mentioned in an audit report. These funds were and continue to be designated for 2013-14 staffing costs. They will be transferred back from our PTO account to the district and applied to Charlemagne’s staffing bill for the current year. Beginning last spring, all parent generated funds flow directly into the Charlemagne PTO account, so this should not be an issue in the future. Please let us know if you have any related questions.

CBOB: Reading Competition!

I’m excited that so many 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students have joined CBOB teams. It’s time to be reading! Please encourage and support your student(s) to read and enjoy the books and actively discuss the stories with the team. It’s so fun to hear groups of students enthusiastically discussing the characters and story lines from their books!
The OBOB section of the Charlemagne school website has been updated (click on “Resources” and then on “OBOB”). The annotated book list for this year and documents and study aids for teams/students to use are available, as well as links to sample questions, and OBOB rules and guidelines. I will be developing a battle schedule soon and will publish it on the school website.
I need parent volunteers! If you are interested in supporting CBOB, please let me know (email address below). There is need now for parents to support teams as they read, process, and discuss the books. Also, moderators, timekeepers, scorekeepers, and team escorts will be needed during the battles.
