I’m writing to let you know of my return from France this past Tuesday, and to give you a heads-up on a few upcoming events:
As part of our ongoing program of raising dollars for staffing, our gift wrap fundraiser is coming to an end. We announced orders are due tomorrow (Friday), but please . . . if you can make any new contacts over the weekend that could support Charlemagne, by all means, SELL over the weekend! Orders will be welcome into the middle of next week, and thank you so much for supporting our school.
WEDNESDAY, October 9, IS WALK/BIKE/CARPOOL DAY DAY!
PARENT FRENCH NIGHT:
Be sure to check out the introduction to the French language next THURSDAY, October 10, from 6:30-8:00, in the library. This fun, interactive class will be taught by French teacher and Charlemagne parent, Greg Hopper-Moore. If you need childcare, please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org
Friday, Oct. 11: State In-service Day
SCIENCE EXPLORATION and ART:
SEA is offered on Fridays.
SCHOOL FUNDING NEWS:
We received some heartening news from Salem today. The Oregon legislature’s “grand bargain” includes more funding for public schools next year. While this year’s budget is not affected, $100 million will be added to funding formulas for 2014-2015. PERS changes were also approved, but won’t provide cost relief until 2015-2016. While additional money won’t provide all the answers to continuing budget challenges, ANY new revenue that allows us to retain more staffing or add back school days is good for kids!
Enjoy the beautiful fall colors this weekend, and GO DUCKS!
